Leisa DeCarlo, a native to the state of Ohio, began her training in dance at the age of four. Under the direction of Christina Galletti, Paula Devereaux, and Emily Scali, Leisa's initial training focused greatly on classical ballet at the Cleveland Dance Academy. As she gained greater passion for dance, Leisa decided to broaden her dance exposure. Although her specialization remained primarily in ballet, she studied jazz, tap, hip hop, and Pilates. At the Cleveland Dance Academy, Leisa obtained many honorable and leading parts in company performances, including Hiawatha, the Queen of Hearts, and the Sugar Plum Fairy. In midst of her study at Cleveland Dance Academy, Leisa began supplementarily training under Margaret Holden with the Ohio Dance Theatre. Through this experience, Leisa was introduced to more diverse performance opportunities, such as Chicago's Grand Prix. However, her first exposure and study of that of modern dance was presented through her role as intern, understudy, and eventual performer for the professional repertory company, Verb Ballets. With Verb Ballets, she trained extensively for three years, under the instruction of Margaret Carlson, and performed the repertory of choreographers such as Ulysses Dove, Merce Cunningham, and Terence Greene. Currently a dance major at The Ohio State University, Leisa is ceaselessly pursuing her future as a dancer, continually returning to The Cleveland Dance Academy, where she voluntarily teaches young, aspiring artists. Leisa, herself, aspires to one day become a professional dancer, own her own studio, or write for a dance magazine.
